ContourGlobal, an independent renewable energy power producer and a subsidiary of KKR, acquired a 37 MW portfolio of operational solar projects and 500 MW/2,000 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in a mature state of development located across Greece.
This marks the company’s entry into the Greek renewable energy market. Of the BESS projects, the first 100 MW are ready to break ground in the coming months.
The solar portfolio, on the other hand, comprises 26 projects, commissioned between 2011 and 2022, previously owned by Quest Energy, a subsidiary of the listed Greek group Quest Holdings. The projects are fully contracted under Feed-in Tariff and Feed-in Premium supporting programs, providing both predictable and premium revenues.
AXIA Ventures Group and Koutalidis Law Firm served as the financial and legal advisors, respectively, to ContourGlobal, while TUV NORD Greece provided Technical Due Diligence counsel.
In parallel, ContourGlobal has acquired in recent months the full ownership of six battery storage projects through two different transactions with developers FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, from Spain) and Zephiros (a Greek developer), totaling 500 MW / 2,000 MWh of battery storage capacity across different regions.
Among the BESS portfolio is Taxiarches, a 100 MW/400 MWh ready-to-build project located in Thessaly, with construction scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026 and commercial operation expected by early 2027.
The other acquisitions include up to 400 MW/1,600 MWh of additional BESS capacity across six projects, all of which have secured environmental approvals and key permits and applied for grid connection.
In 2025, ContourGlobal secured more than $350 million in tax equity and debt financing for its U.S. projects. The financing supports ContourGlobal’s 324 MWp Black Hollow Sun solar project located in Colorado.
According to Mercom’s 9M and Q3 2025 Funding and M&A Report for Energy Storage report, there were 45 energy storage project M&A transactions in the first nine months of 2025 compared to 22 transactions in the same period of 2024.
