BayWa r.e. Sells 63 MW Solar Project in the UK

Lightsource bp, a renewable energy project developer, sold a portfolio of solar projects totaling 1,037 MWdc in Australia to Aula Energy, an Australian-headquartered renewable energy project developer.

The transaction includes five operational solar projects, namely the 200 MWdc Wellington Solar, the 425 MWdc Wellington North Solar, the 107 MWdc West Wyalong Solar, the 214 MWdc Woolooga Solar, and the 90 MWdc Wunghnu Solar projects. The portfolio also comprises a development pipeline of up to 800 MW of co-located battery energy storage systems.

Located in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria, the projects generate approximately 2,230 GWh of low-carbon energy per year.

Adam Pegg, Chief Operating Officer for Asia-Pacific at Lightsource bp, said, “Completing this transaction marks an important milestone for Lightsource bp. These projects were the first assets we delivered in Australia, and they remain high-quality, productive assets with top-tier offtakers. We are pleased to reach an outcome with Aula Energy, who will be an excellent long-term owner of these projects.

These hybrid assets also provide tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of our partners and customers in the Asia-Pacific. Across the region, the acceleration of data center and AI‑driven load, alongside the emergence of new non‑traditional energy users, is rapidly reshaping the future energy mix. Lightsource bp’s solutions that combine onshore renewables (both solar and wind) with battery storage solutions are well positioned to support that growth with reliable, scalable solutions that can respond to the region’s evolving demand profile.”

According to Aula Energy, this strategic acquisition complements its wind projects currently under construction, as well as its wind and battery energy storage projects in development.

With this transaction, Lightsource bp has now completed the sale of its first utility-scale solar projects in developed in Australia. In October, Lightsource bp and Pinnacle Financial Partners announced the closing of $97.9 million tax equity financing for the 187 MW Peacock Solar project located in San Patricio County, Texas.

Further, Lightsource bp acquired a 15 MWp solar project in Hokkaido, Japan, from an undisclosed seller in February 2025.

According to Mercom’s Annual and Q4 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report, approximately 37.4 GW of solar projects were acquired in 2025, compared to 37.7 GW in 2024.
