Standard Solar Acquires 25 MW Solar Project from Balanced Rock Power

Sonnedix, an independent solar power producer, announced the acquisition of an 80 MW solar project in Sicily, Italy, from Blunova, a renewable energy project developer and the sub-holding of Carlo Maresca Group. Following the acquisition, the company will acquire ten operating plants totaling 250 MW from Blunova in Southern Italy.

Once the 250 MW portfolio is completely operational, Sonnedix expects it to generate over 145,000 MWh of clean electricity in the first year.

The acquisition of the 80 MW project follows the purchase of three other projects from Blunova. Sonnedix expects to close agreements for the next six projects during the first half of 2025. With these acquisitions, Sonnedix’s operating portfolio capacity in Italy will increase to nearly 800 MW.

The ten projects are contracted under Italy’s Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) FER 1 auction round.

Sonnedix’s Head of Growth for Italy, Giuseppe Maronna, said, “The acquisition of these ten plants, regulated under the Italian government’s renewable energy auction round, is key to our growth strategy in Italy, providing our customers with fixed, long-term prices for renewable energy. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with the Carlo Maresca Group so we can continue to accelerate Italy’s energy transition.”

In July, Sonnedix announced the acquisition of a 42 MW ground-mounted solar PV project in Carpio del Tajo, Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The company acquired the project from Impax Asset Management.

According to Mercom’s 1H and Q2 2024 Solar Funding and M&A report, 113 solar project acquisitions totaling 18.5 GW were announced in 1H 2024 compared to 116 project acquisitions totaling 25.5 GW in 1H 2023.

In September, Sol Systems, a solar finance and development company, announced the acquisition of over 2 GW of utility-scale hybrid solar and storage projects across the Midwestern United States from Tenaska, an Omaha, Nebraska-based energy company. The portfolio spans multiple states within the Midwest.
