Mulilo Secures Financing for 75 MW Ukuqala Solar Project

Qcells, a utility-scale solar and energy storage project developer and solar EPC provider announced the sale of Ursa Solar Project (formerly known as Langdon Mills Solar), which has a total capacity of 200 MW, to We Energies, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS), and Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE). The project is located in Colombia County, Wisconsin.

The company plans to begin the construction of the project in 2025, and the project is expected to be operational in 2027. Once completed, the Ursa Solar Project will produce enough clean electricity to power nearly 60,000 households, according to We Energies.

Qcells will develop and provide engineering procurement construction services for the project. Additionally, the company will supply solar panels with its Q.ANTUM technology.

Earlier this month, the company also announced the sale of the 142 MW Appaloosa solar project in Garfield County, Washington, to Puget Sound Energy (PSE), an energy utility company. The project will be co-located with the Lower Snake River Wind facility. PSE will own and operate the Appaloosa solar project. Qcells will also supply domestically manufactured solar modules for the project.

“Qcells is excited to deliver this fully integrated solar project in Wisconsin,” said IP Kim, President of Qcells USA. “We look forward to continuing to advance both our partners’ and Qcells’ robust pipeline of solar projects in the US.”

According to Mercom’s 9M and Q3 2024 Solar Funding and M&A report, 166 project acquisitions totaling 28.3 GW were transacted in 9M 2024 compared to the same number of project acquisitions totaling 31.6 GW in 9M 2023.

Earlier this week, Redeux Energy, a utility-scale solar and storage project developer, announced the sale of a hybrid solar and energy storage project to Scout Clean Energy, a renewable energy project developer. The hybrid project will interconnect to a MISO transmission switchyard adjacent to an operating 400 MW DB Wilson coal-fired power plant in Western Kentucky.
