BayWa r.e. Sells 46 MW Floating Solar Project

BayWa r.e., a renewable energy project developer, along with its Dutch subsidiary GroenLeven, announced the completion of the sale of a 46 MW floating solar project in Friesland, the Netherlands.

The project’s rights have been transferred to the local energy cooperative Enerzjyk Skûlenboarch, the municipality Tytsjerksteradiel, and the Friesland Clean Energy Fund.

The project spans 35 hectares and is expected to generate enough clean electricity to supply more than 15,500 residents. The floating solar project will be developed by the local cooperative, with support from the Friesland Clean Energy Fund and the municipality.

“This successful transaction reaffirms our commitment to the expansion of solar in the Netherlands. Deploying floating solar is an important step in further increasing the share of renewable energy in the system. This project marks a significant milestone in our ambition to deliver large-scale energy solutions,” said Maura van de Meent, Managing Director of GroenLeven.

Dr. Daniel Gaefke, COO of BayWa r.e., commented: “This partnership is a great example of how we collaborate with a broad spectrum of investors to deliver impactful renewable energy projects. Empowering cooperatives to take ownership of these projects is central to building a more resilient and inclusive energy system. This deal not only highlights our ability to develop projects across different scales and ownership models, but also demonstrates how they can create meaningful local impact.”

Recently, the company also secured financing for the Jacumba Valley Ranch Energy Park, which includes 90 MWac/127 MWdc solar and 70 MWac/280 MWh battery energy storage capacity located in Southeastern San Diego County, California. The project is currently under construction.

In the first nine months of 2025, approximately 29 GW of solar projects were acquired compared to 28.3 GW in 9M 2024, according to Mercom’s 9M and Q3 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report.
