Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), a China-based battery manufacturing and technology company, announced the listing on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) under stock code 3750, raising $4.6 billion.
The offering is said to have attracted investors from 15 countries and regions worldwide, including sovereign wealth funds, industrial capital, long-term institutions, insurance capital, and multi-strategy funds.
The initial public offering (IPO) comprises 135 million shares, before the greenshoe option, at HKD 296 (~$37.80) each, representing a 12.55% increase from the offering price. According to the company, this makes it the first A-share company to seek a secondary listing in Hong Kong with a price cap for the issuance.
“CATL is not just a battery component manufacturer; we are a system solution provider and are committed to becoming a zero-carbon technology company. “This listing signifies our deeper integration into the global capital markets and marks a new milestone in our mission to drive the global zero-carbon economy,” said Dr. Robin Zeng, Chairman and CEO of CATL, at the listing ceremony.
Headquartered in China, the company aims to replace fossil fuels in stationary and mobile energy systems by utilizing its batteries and renewable energy sources. So far, the company has established thirteen battery manufacturing bases worldwide. In June 2018, the company went public on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
According to Mercom’s Q1 2025 Funding and M&A Report for Energy Storage, announced debt and public market financing for Energy Storage companies in Q1 2025 decreased 90% YoY, with $1.1 billion in 13 deals compared to $10.5 billion in six deals in Q1 2024.
In 2023, Lithium Royalty Corp, a Toronto-based lithium-focused royalty company, announced the completion of its C$150 million (~$109 million) IPO of its common shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company sold 8,824,000 common shares at an offering price of C$17 (~$12.3) per share, resulting in total gross proceeds of approximately $109 million.
