Aptar Pharma Acquires the Digital Respiratory Assets of Cohero Health

AptarGroup, a consumer dispensing, active packaging, drug delivery solutions, and services provider, acquired all operating assets and the proprietary portfolio of Cohero Health for an undisclosed amount. Cohero Health is a creator of smartphone-connected spirometers that monitor lung function and sends the data to a companion app.

The respiratory tech startup was founded in 2013 and has raised over $15 million from tech companies including, Samsung and Omron.

“The combination of Aptar and Cohero Health will bring additional value to our pharmaceutical customers as they seek to put more life-changing respiratory treatments and tools into the hands of empowered patients,” said Gael Touya, President of Aptar Pharma.

As part of the acquisition, Aptar Pharma will acquire Cohero’s digital platform – BreathSmart Connected and the corresponding app, Smart-inhaler sensors, called Hero Tracker Sensors, and connected spirometers: mSpirometer and cSpirometer.

“Cohero Health further strengthens and expands Aptar’s digital portfolio, in this case, with a focus in respiratory disease management,” commented Sai Shankar, Aptar Pharma’s Vice President, Global Digital Healthcare Systems.

Sai Shankar added: “Aptar has made previous investments in other digital respiratory companies such as Sonmol in China and Navia Life Care in India. With this strategic bolt-on, Aptar now has global capabilities to deploy digital respiratory health, utilizing either the Cohero or Aptar device portfolio/platform. The investment will also facilitate Aptar’s ability to provide diagnostic solutions in respiratory and a significant number of other disease categories.”

A total of 132 Digital Health companies were acquired during the first nine months of 2020, according to Mercom’s latest Digital Health Funding and M&A report. Recently, ResMed – a maker of connected respiratory devices – acquired Propeller Health (formerly Asthmapolis), a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma monitoring sensors developer, for $225 million.
