ACCIONA Energía, a renewable energy company that develops, builds, and operates wind, solar, and other clean energy projects, reached an agreement with Mexico Infrastructure Partners (MIP), an investment firm for the sale of a 49% stake in its 1.3 GW solar portfolio in the U.S., together with the whole stake in two wind projects in Mexico totaling 321 MW for $1 billion.
The U.S. solar portfolio includes the 458 MWp Red Tailed Hawk and 316 MWp Fort Bend Solar projects in Texas, the 127 MWp High Point solar project in Illinois, and the 415 MWp Union Solar project in Ohio. ACCIONA Energía will retain a 51% stake in the assets and will continue to operate and manage the portfolio.
The wind portfolio comprises the 183 MW El Cortijo and 138 MW Santa Cruz projects, both located in the municipality of Reynosa in México.
The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
In November 2025, ACCIONA Energía reached an agreement with Cennergi, Exxaro Resource’s wholly owned subsidiary and a renewable energy producer in South Africa, for the sale of its stake in two renewable energy projects located in South Africa totaling 232 MW capacity for an enterprise value of €255 million (~$295 million).
In 2025, the company also secured an A$453 million (~$287.85 million) syndicated loan facility to construct its 480 MWp Aldoga solar project on the central Queensland coast in Australia.
In the first nine months of 2025, approximately 29 GW of solar projects were acquired compared to 28.3 GW in 9M 2024, according to Mercom’s 9M and Q3 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report.
