Grid Connected Infrastructure (GCI), a utility-scale energy storage project developer, has announced the sale of the Megamouth battery energy storage project in Houston, Texas.
The 100 MW/200 MWh project was sold to Banpu Power US Corporation, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of Banpu Power Public Company (BPP), an international energy producer company.
“As the Banpu Group’s first BESS investment in the U.S., the project strengthens our power business value chain across energy generation, storage, and trading, while enhancing energy security amid strong electricity demand growth, particularly driven by the expansion of data centers”, said Issara Niropas, CEO of BPP.
Founded in 2022, GCI is a BESS-focused developer with a growing pipeline of projects across the U.S. GCI will remain the landowner of the Megamouth site, and the project will operate under a long-term lease. The commercial operation of the project is expected by Q4 2027.
“Since launching the company, we have focused on capturing desirable sites for BESS, data center and other grid-connected uses and advancing projects efficiently and responsibly across real estate, permitting, interconnection and off-take. We are proud to complete our first project sale with BPPUS, while also retaining long-term ownership of the land underneath the project.” said Mitchell Bauer, President of GCI.
According to Mercom’s Annual and Q4 2025 Funding and M&A Report for Energy Storage, there were 65 energy storage project M&A transactions in 2025, compared to 38 transactions in 2024.
In February 2026, Eolus, a renewable energy project developer, signed and closed the sale of the 127 MW/506 MWh Roccasecca standalone battery energy storage project in Boulder City, Nevada. The transaction was completed as an all-cash sale to a large U.S. independent power producer with more than 12 GW of aggregate capacity. Construction began in the fourth quarter of last year, and the project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2026.
