Sonnedix Acquires Six Solar Projects Totaling 194 MW

Sonnedix, an independent solar power producer, has acquired a portfolio of six solar projects with a combined capacity of 194 MW in Italy from asset managers EOS Investment Management and Capital Dynamics.

Of the six projects, five are already in operation, totaling 182 MW, while the remaining project, with 12 MW of capacity, is currently under construction. All the projects are located in the Lazio region of the country and are backed by long-term power purchase agreements. The company already has 91 MW operational and 171 MW under construction projects in the region.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, said: “Surpassing 1GW capacity in Italy represents a key milestone that consolidates our leadership in this market. Since our first project in 2010, we have built a solid and lasting presence, positioning ourselves as a strategic partner in the country’s energy transition. Thanks to our experience and the recent award of more than 800 MW in competitive auctions and programs, we are in an excellent position to continue driving Italy’s energy transition.”

With this acquisition, corresponding to the Akira portfolio, Sonnedix’s total operating capacity in Italy has reached more than 1 GW.

In December 2025, the company was awarded contracts for over 800 MW of solar capacity through the FER-X auction in Italy, as well as through the NZIA-aligned scheme and Energy Release mechanisms. Recently, Sonnedix has commissioned the 14 MW Aprilia 2 project in Lazio and is expected to reach the commercial operation date on its 32 MW Ponte Barca project at the end of March this year.

Previously, in 2025, the company also acquired a portfolio of utility-scale solar projects with a combined capacity of 226 MW from Capital Dynamics, an independent private asset management firm.

According to Mercom’s Annual and Q4 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report, approximately 37.4 GW of solar projects were acquired in 2025, compared to 37.7 GW in 2024.
