Münch Energie Secures Financing for 250 MW/500 MWh Energy Storage Projects

Energy Vault, a provider of grid-scale energy storage solutions, has announced the acquisition of the McMurtre Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from Belltown Power, a utility-scale renewable energy project developer.

The 175 MW/350 MWh project, located in the ERCOT North market near Dallas, Texas, will use Energy Vault’s B-VAULT Platform 3, a battery energy storage solution designed to enable fast, cost-effective deployment while maintaining high system availability in the ERCOT region.

The McMurtre BESS is expected to receive notice to proceed in Q4 2026, with commercial operation targeted for December 2027. The project includes an executed Small Generator Interconnection Agreement (SGIA) and full site control, providing a clear, de-risked path to construction.

“With an executed SGIA, full site control, and strong positioning in the ERCOT North market near Dallas, McMurtre has the fundamental attributes our Asset Vault platform was designed to own and operate over the long term,” said Robert Piconi, chairman and chief executive officer of Energy Vault. “This acquisition advances our near-term 1,500 MW BESS deployment roadmap and reflects our three-asset-class strategy, where BESS assets form the foundation that enables our powered land and powered shell offerings to deliver integrated infrastructure for customers and partners.”

According to the company, this acquisition brings the total capacity of projects owned, acquired, under construction, and operational within the Asset Vault platform to 715 MW across all asset classes.

According to Mercom’s Annual and Q4 2025 Funding and M&A Report for Energy Storage, there were 65 energy storage project M&A transactions in 2025, compared to 38 transactions in 2024.

In February 2026, Eolus, a renewable energy project developer, signed and closed the sale of the 127 MW/506 MWh Roccasecca standalone battery energy storage project in Boulder City, Nevada. Construction began in the fourth quarter of last year, and the project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2026.
