Sonnedix Acquires 226 MW of Solar Projects in Italy

Sonnedix, an independent solar power producer, acquired a portfolio of utility-scale solar projects with a combined capacity of 226 MW from Capital Dynamics, an independent private asset management firm.

The portfolio comprises five subsidy-free solar projects located across Lazio and Sicily in Italy and is backed by long-term Pay-as-Produced power purchase agreements. Four of the five projects in the portfolio are operational.

The companies did not disclose financial details of the transaction.

Prothea drove the M&A process while Dentons served as the legal counsel to Capital Dynamics on the transaction.

Mario Volpe, Sonnedix’s Head of Growth for Southern Europe and Representative Director for Italy, said, “These acquisitions mark a major milestone in our continued growth in Italy, and with a strong pipeline of projects currently under construction, we are accelerating towards our target of 2GW operational capacity by the end of 2028. As we grow, we continue focusing on developing battery energy storage solutions and delivering a long-term, reliable, and 100% renewable supply of energy to our customers.”

Sonnedix currently has 500 MW of projects under construction and is expected to achieve 1 GW of operational capacity in Italy by the end of this year. It is also broadening its renewable energy portfolio by investing in advanced energy storage solutions. Sonnedix has begun construction of its first battery storage project in Italy, with a capacity of 18 MW/4H in Sicily, co-located with a 70 MW solar project currently under construction.

Capital Dynamics has built a portfolio of approximately 700 MW capacity in Italy and aims to continue investing in high-quality, ready-to-build assets.

In September 2024, Sonnedix announced the acquisition of an 80 MW solar project in Sicily, Italy, from Blunova, a renewable energy project developer and a subsidiary of the Carlo Maresca Group.

Capital Dynamics last year announced that its Clean Energy business acquired a 100% equity stake in six solar projects in Spain, which it acquired through two separate deals.

According to Mercom’s 1H and Q2 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report, approximately 19.9 GW of solar projects were acquired in the first half of 2025, compared to 18.5 GW in the first half of 2024.
