Zenobē, an owner and operator of grid-scale battery storage, has acquired Bavaria-based battery energy storage developer sdp energie.
According to Zenobē, this acquisition is expected to gain access to a 1.75 GW pipeline of transmission-connected battery storage projects across six sites in Germany, marking Zenobē’s first significant move into Germany’s battery energy storage market.
Zenobē is a U.K.-headquartered electric vehicle fleet and grid-scale battery storage company operating in 12 countries.
According to Zenobē, the acquisition will support the delivery and operation of battery storage projects as markets for grid-support services begin to open in Germany.
sdp energie has more than 100 battery storage projects under development across Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
James Basden, Co-Founder and Director at Zenobē, said, “We are excited to bring together two businesses that share strong leadership, leading technical capability and a similarly innovative mindset. The acquisition of sdp energie demonstrates Zenobē’s commitment to supporting transmission system operators, regulators and energy system operators in Europe and the US as they transition to a zero-carbon grid.”
Zenobē plans to combine this local experience with its work developing and operating transmission-connected battery storage projects in the U.K. The company has 3.3 GWh of battery storage capacity in operation or under construction.
According to Mercom’s recently released 1H 2026 Funding and M&A for Energy Storage report, Corporate M&A activity in the energy storage sector rose sharply in the first half of 2026 with 15 transactions announced, a 275% increase compared to four transactions in 1H 2025.
In July, Brookfield Asset Management, a New York-headquartered global investment firm focused on infrastructure, renewable energy, private equity, real estate, and credit, agreed to acquire North American battery storage platform Aypa Power from funds managed by Blackstone Energy Transition Partners.
