Westbridge Renewable Energy, a utility-scale renewable energy project developer, has entered into a definitive share purchase agreement to sell its Red Willow solar and battery storage project in Alberta, Canada.
Red Willow is an advanced-stage project in Stettler County No. 6 in central Alberta. It comprises solar generation capacity up to 225 MW and a proposed 100 MW battery energy storage system.
The solar and battery storage facilities have received power project and substation approvals from the Alberta Utilities Commission. The project also holds an interconnection position in the Alberta Electric System Operator process.
The agreement, dated August 27, 2026, covers the sale of all issued and outstanding shares of Westbridge’s wholly owned subsidiary, Red Willow Solar.
Westbridge could receive total proceeds of C$26.73 million (~$19.27 million) if all conditions under the agreement are met. At closing, Westbridge is expected to receive C$10.5 million (~$7.56 million) in cash and reimbursement or replacement of C$4.73 million (~$3.4 million) described in the agreement as the generating unit owner’s contribution amount.
The company is also eligible to receive C$4.5 million (~$3.24 million) when the battery energy storage system reaches commercial operation.
Westbridge could receive an additional C$25,000 (~$18,023)/MW when the solar photovoltaic system reaches commercial operation. Based on the project’s current configuration, the company estimates the payment at approximately C$7 million (~$5.04 million).
In 2024, the company closed the sale of its 75%-owned 332 MW Sunnynook solar project in Alberta. A subsidiary of METLEN Energy & Metals, formerly known as Mytilineos, acquired the solar project.
Westbridge has several other solar and energy storage projects under development in Alberta. Its Dolcy project comprises up to 300 MW of solar capacity and up to 100 MW of battery storage and has received approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission.
The company is also developing the Eastervale Solar project, which has up to 300 MW of capacity. The company has submitted its application to the Alberta Utilities Commission, and the regulatory process is underway.
According to Mercom’s 1H and Q2 2026 Solar Funding and M&A report, approximately 25.2 GW of solar projects were acquired in the first half of 2026, compared to 19.9 GW in the first half of 2025.
