Verdant Energy Secures $25 Million Financing for Solar Projects in Thailand

From: Mercom India

Solar project developer Verdant Energy has secured up to $25 million in non-recourse project financing from responsAbility Investments to support its portfolio of commercial and industrial solar projects in Thailand.

The financing will support the development, construction, and operation of the projects, providing long-term capital for Verdant’s solar projects in Thailand as the company expands its renewable energy portfolio in Southeast Asia.

responsAbility is providing the financing on behalf of its investors through its $500 million Climate Investment Strategy for Asia, a private debt strategy focused on climate infrastructure investments across emerging and developing markets.

“This financing is an important milestone for Verdant as we continue to scale our renewable energy platform across Southeast Asia,” said Alan Yau, Chief Executive Officer of Verdant Energy. “Partnering with responsAbility strengthens our access to long-term project capital and enables us to accelerate the deployment of high-quality solar projects in Thailand. We are pleased to work alongside an investor that shares our long-term commitment to supporting the region’s energy transition.”

Verdant is said to have an established presence in Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Verdant is backed by A.P. Moller Capital through its Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund II.

In August 2026, Verdant Energy and Aura Power Developments have merged to form a solar and battery energy storage system independent power producer with approximately 1 GW of operating and under-construction assets in the U.K. The combined company also has an approximately 10 GW development pipeline and will continue the selective development of Aura Power’s battery storage pipeline in Europe. Aura Power Founder and Chief Executive Simon Coulson will lead the combined company and retain a minority stake.

Announced large-scale solar project funding increased by 71% in the first half of 2026 compared with the funding raised in the same period in 2025, according to Mercom’s recently released 1H and Q2 2026 Solar Funding and M&A report.
