Alight Acquires 200 MW Solar Portfolio in Finland

Alight, a solar developer and independent power producer, acquired two solar projects with a combined capacity of more than 200 MW located in eastern Finland from the Finnish project developer 3Flash.

Both projects, one of about 75 MW and the other of 150 MW capacity, are located in eastern Finland, a region with relatively low existing local power generation and lower grid congestion compared to other parts of the country. Alight and 3Flash will co-develop both projects until they reach the ready-to-build phase.

The 75 MW project is scheduled for grid connection around 2028 and benefits from a nearby grid connection to the Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid. The project also has a building permit for a 30 MW battery energy storage system.

The 150 MW project is expected to connect to the grid via a planned Fingrid substation expansion around 2030.

With this acquisition, Alight’s large-scale solar and storage development pipeline capacity in Finland now exceeds 1 GW.

The solar projects benefit from long-term power purchase agreements, under which Alight constructs, owns, and operates the solar projects.

“By adding local solar and storage, we strengthen energy self-sufficiency and increase grid resilience in eastern Finland. With its strong solar conditions and available grid capacity, the region is an ideal location for new large-scale projects,” says Warren Campbell, CEO at Alight.

In 2026, Alight secured a £34 million (~$47 million) portfolio financing facility from SEB, a Swedish multinational investment bank and financial services group. The Nordic company has been developing European behind-the-meter (BtM) solar projects built directly on or adjacent to customer sites, located on the consumer side of the utility meter.

According to Mercom’s Annual and Q4 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report, approximately 37.4 GW of solar projects were acquired in 2025, compared to 37.7 GW in 2024.
