EDF power solutions Acquires 500 MW Solar Project in the UK

EDF power solutions UK, previously known as EDF Renewables, an independent power producer and services provider, announced the acquisition of the 500 MW Gate Burton Energy Park solar project in Lincolnshire from Low Carbon, a renewable energy project developer.

EDF will work through the details of the consent order and the program for delivering the project before engaging stakeholders and the community on the plans to begin construction.

The acquisition marks further expansion of EDF’s growing portfolio of solar and storage projects in the U.K. This portfolio includes the Longfield project in Essex, which received consent in June 2023, along with two other large-scale projects: the Springwell solar project in Lincolnshire and the Rosefield solar project in Buckinghamshire, both of which are currently progressing through the planning process.

The company did not disclose further details on the financial details of the acquisition.

Roy Bedlow, Founder and Chief Executive at Low Carbon, said, “We are delighted to finalise this agreement with EDF Power Solutions. This milestone marks the next step forward for Gate Burton, one of the first large-scale solar projects to be consented by Ed Miliband following last year’s general election. It will help put the UK on the path to achieving its Clean Power 2030 ambition.”

In March, the company acquired a 529 MW portfolio of development-stage solar projects in Germany from MEC Group, a solar and wind project developer. They are the first solar project development pipeline acquired by EDF in Germany.

According to Mercom’s Q1 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report, about 13.6 GW of solar projects were acquired in Q1 2025 compared to 10.8 GW in Q1 2024.

Earlier this week, ib vogt, a solar and energy storage project developer, announced the sale of the 110 MWp Pato solar project located in Segovia, Spain, to NextPower V ESG, a private solar infrastructure strategy managed by NextEnergy Capital.
