This is an Associate Account Executive position reports to our Account Manager and will have an opportunity to work with a Senior collaborative team, develop their PR/communications skills and perform meaningful work with global impact.

What You’ll Be Doing

 

· Conduct media relations efforts, including developing strong relationships with the media and pitching media

· Develop and maintain media contacts

· Generate new ideas and media leads

· Drafting pitch letters, press releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, social media content, presentations, including materials based on complex technology/scientific information.

· Develop, pitch and place stories with media

· Monitor media for client coverage and competitive research

· Monitor media for new ideas and industry happenings

· Develop and manage client reporting on a weekly basis – activity report, clips, pipeline, press room updates

· Execute PR tactics based on Mercom processes

· Assist in research, targeting, preparing proposals for new clients.

· Support account executives in management of client accounts, including planning and execution of client programs

· Support account executives and management as needed to ensure client satisfaction through exceptional work product.

· Responsible for meeting deadlines on all assigned activities, whether done internally or with outside service providers as needed, including design/creative, editorial, advertising or any other necessary services.

· Attend meetings and events including third-party and industry conferences, etc. on behalf of clients and Mercom.

· Represent Mercom and its clients at events and trade shows (virtual and live) as needed.

· Facilitate and maintain client schedules and media coordination during conference participation.

· Collaborate with other Mercom team members for training on clients, industry and Mercom standards.

· Assist in the development of media sponsorships for conferences

· Support Mercom’s marketing and market intelligence efforts – web site updates, ending MI reports, managing email lists, developing marketing pitches

· Support Mercom’s management with general office functions as needed

· Continuously promote and build the Mercom brand both internally (with internal team members) and externally to the outside world

 

Job Requirements

 

· 1-3 years of experience in public relations or communications, may include internships (Required)

· At least one year of agency PR experience with multiple accounts and projects (Preferred)

§ Bachelor’s in public relations, communications, journalism or related field (Required)

§ Candidates must reside in the Austin area and be willing to work from the firm’s office daily. This is not a remote position.

 

Desired Experience/Skills

 

· Proactive, goal-oriented individual who takes pride in what they do and in successfully completing their tasks

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Strategic thinking skills and the ability to solve problems and overcome obstacles

· Excellent writing and copywriting skills across multiple channels (press releases, pitches, website, social media posts, blogs, technical articles and white papers, key messages and scripts, presentations, etc.)

· Knowledge of AP Style

· Ability to proofread and deliver assignments free of spelling and grammar errors

· Excellent communications and presentation skills

· Must function well in a team-oriented environment

· Experience working directly with energy and environmental journalists, from top-tier outlets to trades and be well versed in the top energy and environmental stories in the news a plus

· Tactical proficiency in media relations, including creating and driving both traditional and social media outreach plans, as well as proactively pitching media outlets on an ongoing basis

· Ability to maintain and develop key media contacts

· Must be able to grasp technical concepts and translate to written pieces, such as articles, press releases, blogs, social media posts and more

· Experience working with desktop publishing and media databases a plus

· Ability to prioritize and work under pressure

Writer/Copy Editor

 

We are looking for an experienced writer with experience in journalism and adept in writing, editing and developing corporate content in both technical and non-technical pieces. This position will assist both our public relations and research departments in developing content for a variety of mediums and provide writing and editing support related to energy, clean tech, and finance-related topics. This position will be responsible for maintaining and improving brand integrity and ensure the highest quality in all written materials.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

– Working closely with the public relations team and clients (including engineers) to compose, edit, and produce technical articles, press releases, competitive research, abstracts, media/analyst briefs and pitches, talking points and speeches, and other material as needed.
– Working with research team to draft and edit articles and published reports.
– Ensuring quality assurance for all documents and materials, corporate identity compliance, high-quality graphics, and accurate content throughout draft, editorial, and production phases.
– Assisting in the development of research to support new client proposals.
-Meeting deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review and approval of documents; monitoring status of deliverables; coordinating requirements with contributors; reporting proposal status information in review meetings; and transmitting proposals.
– Participating in, and in some cases leading, the creation and continuous improvement of standards required for all written deliverables and published materials.
– Creating and maintaining documentation templates and style guides.
– Managing final document editing: making sure writing is tight, ensure document headings and graphics labeling are accurate, correct errors and inconsistencies in grammar, syntax, style, punctuation, etc.
– Managing multiple projects concurrently, meeting all deliverable deadlines, and maintaining a production schedule.
– Maintaining and improving brand integrity through all written documentation.
– Continually improving and demonstrating best practices to peers, clients, and organization.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

– Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an ability to grasp and communicate technical concepts is required. Solid, lucid, writing ability and style
– Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or other related field is required.
– 3+ years of demonstrated professional experience in journalism, writing and editing in a technical environment
– Experience in cleantech, energy, or high tech a plus
– High proficiency in Microsoft Office is required

– Experience with developing high quality graphics is a plus.
– Able to process information quickly and accurately with strong attention to detail.
– Highly organized with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and a highly dynamic environment is required.
– Flexible and able to balance priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously within tight schedules.

– Self-starter that is able to contribute through a value-added mindset.
