METLEN Agrees to Sell 165 MW Solar, 725 MWh Storage Project in Chile

METLEN Energy & Metals (formerly MYTILINEOS), a Greek industrial conglomerate, has signed an agreement with Copec S.A., through its subsidiary Copec Flux S.p.A., to sell the Tamarico II hybrid renewable energy project in Chile’s Atacama Region.

The project combines 165 MW solar photovoltaic capacity with a 725 MWh battery energy storage system. The storage capacity can be expanded to 925 MWh.

METLEN said Tamarico II was developed as an integrated solar and energy storage facility designed to support power system flexibility and renewable energy integration.

The company plans to monetize the project through its Asset Rotation model, under which it develops, builds, and operates renewable energy projects before selling them. The company did not disclose the transaction’s financial terms or provide a timeline for completing the sale.

In 2026, METLEN entered into an agreement with Schroders Greencoat, the specialist energy transition infrastructure manager of Schroders Capital, to sell a portfolio of solar projects totaling 283 MW in the U.K., and secured €16.6 million (~$19.9 million) in project financing to support the development of the 20.75 MW Bicinicco solar project in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northern Italy.

METLEN has also reported battery storage projects in the U.K., Italy, and Greece. In the U.K., the company recently signed a balance of plant contract with Pulse Clean Energy for the 129 MW Penn battery storage project in the West Midlands. In Italy, METLEN secured €18 million in long-term financing for a 25 MW, 75 MWh battery storage project in Apulia, in the province of Brindisi. In Greece, METLEN and Karatzis Group of Companies have developed a standalone battery storage project in the Thessaly region with a capacity of 330 MW and 790 MWh of installed battery capacity.

According to Mercom’s 1H and Q2 2026 Solar Funding and M&A report, approximately 25.2 GW of solar projects were acquired in the first half of 2026, compared to 19.9 GW in the first half of 2025.
