ACCIONA Energía to Sell Solar and Wind Portfolio in the US and Mexico

ACCIONA Energía, a renewable energy company that develops, builds, and operates wind, solar, and other clean energy projects, reached an agreement with Cennergi, Exxaro Resource’s wholly owned subsidiary and a renewable energy producer in South Africa, for the sale of its stake in two renewable energy projects located in South Africa totaling 232 MW capacity for an enterprise value of €255 million (~$295 million).

The two projects comprise the 94 MWp Sishen solar project and the 138 MW Gouda wind project, both operational since 2014 and 2015, respectively. ACCIONA Energía owns 55% of each project through ACCIONA Energía International, a company in which AXA (20%) and Bestinver Infra FCR (5%) participate, while Royal Bafokeng Holdings (25%), Soul City (10%), and Community Trust (10%) hold the remaining 45%.

The transaction also includes ACCIONA Energía’s 80% stake in the company responsible for the operation and maintenance of both projects. It is expected to close in 2026, which is subject to customary regulatory approvals, and to generate a capital gain of around €65 million (~$75 million). The projects are backed by €100 million (~$116 million) in project financing.

This transaction is part of the company’s asset rotation strategy announced in November 2023. Since then, the company has signed agreements to sell over 1.4 GW of renewable energy projects across Costa Rica, Spain, and Peru for over €2 billion (~$2.3 billion).

In March 2025, the company also secured an AUD$453 million (~$287.85 million) syndicated loan facility to construct its 480 MWp Aldoga solar project on the central Queensland coast in Australia.

In the first nine months of 2025, approximately 29 GW of solar projects were acquired compared to 28.3 GW in 9M 2024, according to Mercom’s 9M and Q3 2025 Solar Funding and M&A report.

In November 2025, Evcil Group, a Turkish engineering-and-energy company specializing in electrical contracting, renewable energy (especially solar), and construction/engineering services, acquired a portfolio of three solar projects with a combined capacity of 15 MW located in Romania, from an undisclosed seller.
