Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency Bids for 50 MW of Solar Amid Lack of Response for the 500 MW Tender

The Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) has bid for 50 MW of solar in the 500 MW tender floated by the state’s DISCOM, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). The nodal agency, TEDA, quoted a tariff of Rs.4.44 (~$0.067)/kWh, but had been asked by TANGEDCO to match Rs.4.40 (~$0.065)/kWh which it did.

“Yes, we have bid for 50 MW capacity,” stated an official at TEDA in Tamil Nadu, the tenders were not receiving the desired response. Being the nodal agency for energy development in the state, TEDA is participating in the bidding process to promote solar, further commented an official at TEDA.

When asked whether this tender will be filled, the TEDA official stated, “we are doing what we can. With the upcoming elections and state budget, there might be delays.”

A TANGEDCO official stated that the auction might be delayed, but was expected to go through.

Mercom previously reported that the TANGEDCO had tendered 500 MW of solar to meet its renewable purchase obligation and received bids to develop 300 MW of solar.
