Sterling & Wilson to Develop World’s Largest 1,177 MW Solar Project in Abu Dhabi

Sterling & Wilson has won an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) bid to develop a 1,177 MW solar project in Sweihan in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi. Once complete, the project will be the largest solar project at a single location. The timeframe to complete the project is estimated to be 23 months.

The project is being jointly developed by Marubeni, a Japanese integrated trading and investment giant, Jinko, a Chinese PV module manufacturer, and the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA). The consortium successfully bid a tariff of $0.0242 (~Rs.1.564)/kWh, marking the lowest tariff ever for solar power, stated a Sterling & Wilson release.

“We are fully geared and very excited to be a part of this important milestone in the global solar market”, said Bikesh Ogra, President of Renewable Energy, Sterling and Wilson.

According to Mercom’s Q1 2017 India Solar Market Update, Sterling & Wilson is the largest utility scale EPC contractor in India with commissioned capacity of approximately 1.3 GW.
