The Indian Railways Organization for Alternate Fuel (IROAF), an Indian Railways entity, and Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) entered into an agreement to develop a 2 MW solar rooftop project in the city of Patiala in southeastern Punjab.

The project will be developed under the Government’s incentive program, stated IROAF. The project will be constructed at the Diesel-Loco Modernization Works facility in Patiala and will be commissioned within the next 10 months, said Ravindra Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer of IROAF.

Soon, 44 rooftops on railway workshops across the country will be powered with solar energy, added Mr. Gupta.

This is the first project to be covered under the Achievement Linked Incentive program for government buildings under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
