India Sees 750 MW of Solar Auctioned and 71 MW of Solar Tendered in February 2017

In February 2017, just 70.8 MW of solar was tendered in India, compared to 931 MW in January 2017. Rooftop solar accounted for most of the capacity tendered in February. Solar auction activity was robust with 750 MW in February compared to 504 MW in January.

During the month of February, the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam tendered a 1 MW ground mount solar project. The project will be installed on the Numaligarh Refinery premises.

To meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation, the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) tendered two solar projects of 10 MW each to be developed at Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal.

In three separate tenders, a total capacity of 49.8 MW of rooftop solar was tendered. The Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) tendered 37.8 MW of rooftop solar in a bid to achieve the state’s rooftop target set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). In a move to push for more rooftop solar in the state, the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA) tendered 10 MW of rooftop solar in West Bengal. To fulfill its energy requirement, the electricity department of Andaman & Nicobar tendered two MW of rooftop solar in the union territory.

Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam (MPUVNL) successfully auctioned 750 MW of solar at the REWA solar park in Madhya Pradesh at record low tariff.
