HERC Quadruples Incentives Provided for Rooftop Solar in Haryana

The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has raised the incentive offered by the state government for rooftop solar systems. Starting August 2016 through the end of the current financial year, residential consumers opting to install solar rooftop systems will receive an incentive of Rs.1 (~$0.015)/kWh, four times the previous incentive of Rs.0.25 (~$0.00375)/kWh.

The Haryana Solar Power Policy 2016 is targeting installations of 3,200 MW by 2021-2022, of which 1,600 MW is set aside for solar rooftop systems. This increase is expected to spur rooftop installations and meet Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) requirements according to a HERC official. The state RPO for financial year 2016-17 is 3.75 percent, one percent of which is solar.
