Gujarat Removes Upper Cap on Rooftop System Capacity Being Installed by Consumers

The state government of Gujarat has removed the capacity restriction of 50 percent of the approved load or contracted demand by small residential rooftop owners. Now, residential consumers can install rooftop solar systems of capacity of their choice, irrespective of the approved or contracted load. The order was released with immediate effect on April 13, 2017.

The upper cap has been removed keeping in mind there are many rooftops where projects of large capacities can be developed, these could not make optimal utilization of available space due to the 50 percent cap. The move will spur rooftop solar’s growth in the state, commented an official at Gujarat Energy Development Agency.
